Louisa Weeping Crabapple

Everybody needs a good weeper now and again. It’s cathartic! Seriously though, Louisa Crabapple, or Malus ‘Louisa’ is a small Crabapple tree with a unique weeping habit. It only grows to 12-15’ high and wide, so quite smaller than most Crabapples which can top out near 30’ high and wide. So, this is a great selection for the smaller yards in many of the newer Louisville Colorado landscapes.
Like any Crabapple, they are usually quite easy to get established and keep thriving over many decades. They have what is considered medium water requirements, though they can handle drought stresses pretty well. Louisa has beautiful pink spring flowers, flowing off weeping and sweeping branching. These trees will work wonders as a focal point to a small courtyard garden, a corner nook, or as the top of a berm.
They will like a little winter protection, but can generally handle wind just fine. A few boulders and some Hosta underneath can make for a great landscape setting. They like full sun to partial shade and need little pruning. Fruit is quite small (3/8”) but proliferous. Find some at your local nursery and plant today!
